Conscious Living with WHSmith

We all have a responsibility to protect our planet and at WHSmith we’re committed to minimising our impact on the environment and helping our customers to do the same. We are on a journey to creating a more sustainable, better business, and we’ve been working for many years to reduce the amount of energy we use across our stores, offices, distribution centres and supply chains.

As part of our sustainability journey, we’re continually reviewing all own-brand products to reduce their environmental impact; including reducing single-use plastic, using pulp from recycled or sustainable sources in all paper-based products, and switching to better environmental packaging options. We also have rigorous steps in place to protect the well-being of those working in our supply chain. Find out more about how we are transitioning to a more sustainable business below.

Our Packaging

Our Packaging

From products to packaging to plastic bags; we’re working hard to reduce single-use plastic across our business and reduce the environmental impact of our own-brand products. This includes removing packaging where possible or switching to better environmental options.

We’ve removed cellophane wrapping from our greetings cards and plastic glitter from all own-brand products.

We’ve also updated the packaging that your order will arrive in when you order online from the WHSmith warehouse. Our cardboard cartons are 100% recyclable (including the tape!) and they’re all made from at least 70% recycled content. We also use water-based ink on many of our parcels, and we’re continuing to look into new ways to lessen the impact our packaging has on the environment.
